If you’re ever asked the question “what does a medical assistant do?” the answer is that a medical assistant will work with a physician performing both administrative and clerical tasks to help a medical practice run more smoothly. Clinical duties may vary from state to state but examples would include assisting physicians during exams, authorizing prescription refills as directed by the physician, collecting and preparing lab specimens, drawing blood, explaining procedures to patients, instructing patients about medications or special diets, performing basic lab tests, preparing and administering medications as directed by the physician, preparing patients for examination, removing sutures and changing dressings, taking electrocardiograms, and taking medical histories.

Residency is over, thank God. But I haven’t nailed down a permanent job yet. All my time now has to go to looking into surgeon recruiting.
My specialty is especially tough. The truth is General Surgeon Jobs are pretty tough to find nowadays. You wouldn’t think so, but it’s true.
I’m trained in general surgery, so any surgery job could work. At some point I may have to settle.
